The starting point of the piece were the records in the Books. The most important element of the mikveh, a ceremonial Jewish bath, is water which is used for ritual cleansing to achieve purity in the religious sense. The Books determine the requirements of mikveh: it should contain at least 575 litres of water from a natural source. In her work, the artist points to the objectivity of items of sacred or magical significance, and their visual dimension. She brings out the dichotomy ascribed to forms and objects – between what is religious, and what is secular.
The work is featured in the collection of POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews.
