The inflatable object made from transparent plastic is a pastiche of sculptural forms that glorify power, fight and faith – all the things that according to the artist take our attention away from another human being. Columns erected for the gods, victories, or the power of nature renewing itself were to convey eternal lasting and symbolically connect the earth with heaven. Dzikowska’s Monument alludes to the column as the symbol of power, permanence and masculinity. It is, however, an ironic reflection on contemporary man, his ego and the need to place symbols in the space surrounding him. Egyptian obelisks devoted to sun god Re were placed in front of the temple entrance. The exposition of Kornelia’s work in the gallery refers to the concept of museum as a temple displaying secular values and it is an expression of the condition of contemporary Creator. The materials and technique used make the monument easier to “install” in almost any conditions, and store it later.
Kornelia has made two monuments. The first, “Soft Monument” was made from upholstery foam (2015)
